Functional Safety Concept - ISO26262-3:2018

Goals

• Understand the objectives and structure of the ISO 26262 Concept Phase
• Perform a complete Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) in a structured way
• Determine ASIL levels based on Severity, Exposure, and Controllability parameters
• Define clear and consistent Safety Goals from identified hazards
• Understand the logical flow and traceability between Item Definition, HARA, and FSC
• Develop a Functional Safety Concept (FSC) aligned with safety requirements
• Apply concepts through practical examples from safety-critical systems (e.g., Electronic Power Steering and similar applications

Prerequisites

• Basic understanding of engineering systems (automotive or embedded systems)
• Familiarity with system development processes (e.g., V-cycle) is helpful but not mandatory
• No prior knowledge of ISO 26262 is required, as key concepts are introduced progressively
• Interest in safety-critical systems and motivation to learn how safety is applied in real industrial projects
• A lot of motivation :)
