Course Description

Are you...

  • A student that is just about to sit their school or state exams?

  • Feeling stressed and anxious, worrying how on earth you are going to remember all the key points and formulas for the Maths exam?

  • Planning to revise fundamentals of the junior maths course in a short time?

  • Someone who just wants to learn the basics of maths to the standard of the Irish Junior Cycle or UK GCSE?

If you identify with any of the above statements then this maths course might be perfect for you!

What?

  • A condensed crash course for the Junior level Maths with all the key concepts you need to know and remember for the exam.

  • Focus is on the Irish Junior Cycle but is equivalent to the GCSE maths course.

How?

  • 10-30 mins video lectures on each topic

  • Exam question worksheets for each topic with separate solution pdf - questions are from slightly older papers but nonetheless serve as excellent practise for the exam, as overall the style of questions that come up hasn't changed much for the new Junior Cycle

  • Slides and transcript pdf provided for each video

COURSE FOCUS: understanding the core, fundamental concepts for each topic and being able to apply that knowledge to solve exam questions. Therefore, it's excellent for revision right before an exam or as a refresher.

PLEASE NOTE that if you are under the age of 18, you will need your parent/guardian to purchase the course for you.

**The only topic not covered in this course is Constructions.

Reviews

Eugene Barry - Jana's Junior Cycle Mathematics Crash Course is an excellent revision tool. It focuses on the key fundamental concepts for each topic and explains them in a clear and concise manner. Jana has an excellent academic background and a passion for science and maths. In her maths course, she shows a deep understanding of the subject, and has the capacity to effectively communicate this knowledge to students to solve exam questions, while at the same time showing the real-life applications of maths and making the subject interesting and exciting. Not all maths teachers possess these characteristics. Jana's strongly-held belief is that anybody can become good, and ultimately excel, at maths with consistent practice and focused effort. Jana's videos, combined with her course notes, exam questions, and separate solution pdf workings, represent excellent value for money compared with expensive weekly grinds/tuition. Fortunately, Jana plans to publish further maths courses in the future, including Leaving Certificate courses.

I completed my Bachelor of Science at University College Dublin (UCD) in 2022, specialising in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am currently a 2nd year Biochemistry DPhil (PhD) student at the University of Oxford.

Some of my academic achievements include securing summer research scholarships from the Irish Cancer Society and Health Research Board, attaining a first class honours, graduating top of my class, and winning the Highly Commended Award for my thesis on Alzheimer's Disease awarded by the Global Undergraduate Awards, which I carried out on exchange at the University of Copenhagen. Outside of my course, I became Deputy Science, Health and Technology Editor at UCD's student newspaper, The University Observer. I interviewed several prominent researchers and entrepreneurs at UCD, including UCD alumni Prof Teresa Lambe, OBE, who co-developed the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. My journalism work earned me a nomination at the National Student Media Awards 2022 (SMEDIAS) for the SFI Award for Journalism relating to Science and Technology.

During the pandemic, I started providing online one-to-one maths lessons and I have been tutoring Junior Cycle maths students for about 2 years now.

I am passionate about learning, education and science communication. Throughout my time in UCD, I have gained a deeper appreciation for mathematics and how it can help us to understand the very nature of our universe and reality. I strive to not only teach the fundamental concepts of maths to students, but to also show how important mathematical thinking and understanding is in today's world.

I don't believe in failure, there's only success and opportunities for learning. Maths is not something that only a few can understand. Anyone who is eager, interested and curious about the world around them can learn and understand maths, regardless of ability or aptitude. With small, consistent and focused effort, every student can achieve their full potential and excel in any subject. I strongly believe in this philosophy, I actively try to employ and follow it both when I teach and in my own life.
