Course Description

You will learn how to create a CNC program for a three-axis CNC milling machine in this course.

Many students find it challenging to learn how to program a CNC machine for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:

Many students find it difficult to learn how to program a CNC machine, and the reasons include but are not exclusive:

  • Lack of resources (CNC machine, stock etc.)
  • The danger of being injured by the machine as a novice.
  • The danger of destroying the machine as a novice.
  • Lack of proper guidance.

In order to solve these issues, the entire course employs a simulation environment rather than a genuine CNC machine. This eliminates the need for students to be concerned with the issues raised above. By the time you finish this course, you will be proficient at programming a CNC mill. The software used in this course is capable of simulating every aspect of the behaviour of a real-world CNC machine, from setting your work offsets to homing, jogging, using clamps and vice to hold your stock, arranging your tools in your tool magazine for the automatic tool changer, and many more. The theoretical and practical features of CNC mills are also covered in this course.

Some concepts taught in this course include.

  • Fanuc control
  • Cartesian coordinates
  • Relative and absolute coordinates
  • Polar coordinates
  • Canned cycle
  • Peck drilling cycle
  • Linear and circular interpolation
  • Machining pockets
  • Generating CNC codes of complex geometry with Autodesk Feature Cam.
  • And many more

This course is filled with a lot of programming exercises to sharpen the skills you will learn, so what are you waiting for hop on by enrolling.

Goals

  • Program parts on a CNC Milling Machine using the Fanuc control.
  • Operate a CNC Milling Machine.
  • Write and Read G and M codes.
  • Read and interpret technical drawing.
  • Generate NC codes with Autodesk FeatureCam.

Prerequisites

  • Basic understanding on how to use a PC.
