Course Description
This course teaches students about some of the best works and collections of the Viennese modernism concepts has been discussed in detail. This also shows some of the graphical design works, product design works, furniture design works of postmodernism style and how Venice furniture designers and architects have crafted the works. Also students will learn about the technology behind a tonic bank with furniture which created the biggest ripple in the whole of the furniture history in the world.
Goals
- Students will learn about the designer's perspective towards visiting an Arts and Furniture museum and understanding the form language ergonomics, colour fit and finish and aesthetic beauty etc.
- Students will learn about the graphic design, typographic design, colour schemes, visual iconographic illustrations of how early 19th century Viennese graphic designers have done in detail.
- Students will learn the technology behind Bentwood furniture starting from applying steam to the wood, clamping down the wood, bending down in the fixture, holding it for sometime, releasing the grams to get the proper shape of the furniture.
- Shown and discussed all the Best prominent works of Thonet furniture in detail showcasing the form factor, economics, colour, fit and finish with details explained with each and every product.
- Some of the online collections and archives of Thonets furniture has also been put for the students for understanding.
- Discussing the pyramid of technology starting from envisioning a product making it white and available to the people and then making it as an invisible and naturalised product is the whole understanding of the pyramid of technology and how we are fitting the products inside it has been discussed with pictorial representations.
- Class project was given in a way so that students are able to go to the nearest showroom or maybe any car Museum document what they've observed in a very creative way to learn about documentation skills and register what they've learnt which could be used for them in their portfolios or even for Job pigeons in their career.
