Course Description
The "Obstacle Avoidance Robot" course is an in-depth course, from a robotics perspective, on the design and implementation of an independent robot that will be capable of navigating complex environments. The target students are those enthusiastic about robotics, artificial intelligence, and embedded systems who need practical and sound theoretical grounding in navigation.
By the course, students would be involved in projects that included design-building-programming of robots with sensors for obstacle detection and avoidance. We will also be building some basic projects as we progress towards building the obstacle avoidance robot, like the Automated barrier system, Christmas Light, Traffic Light among others.
The curriculum encompasses the essential topics, though; it will include sensor integration, including ultrasonic sensors to give the robot the capability for great accuracy in perception. We shall delve into the development of algorithms for obstacle detection and avoidance, learn ways to perform navigation techniques, and explore the use of L298N Motor driver for geared DC motor speed control.
