Water Distribution Modeling and Design - WaterGEMS - AulaGEO

Goals

• Master the waters basics of water distribution systems with OpenFlows WaterGEMS.
• Master creating and editing simple network models, i.e., pipes, junctions, pumps, tanks, and valves.
• Run simulations to estimate system behavior, i.e., pressures, flows, and fire flow capacity.
• Use simple workflows for demand allocation, pressure management, and criticality analysis.
• Import and manipulate external data (GIS data, CAD drawings, spreadsheets) to build and edit models rapidly.
• Apply combined functions for fire flow analysis, leak detection, and system improvement determination.
• Investigate simple steady-state and extended period simulations (EPS) to identify operating conditions.
• Understand model calibration using field data and calibrate models for achieving maximum possible accuracy.
• Understand exporting, importing, and linking models to AutoCAD, MicroStation, and standalone WaterGEMS interfaces.
• Gain practical skills for planning, analysis, and optimization of small water distribution networks.

Prerequisites

• Basic understanding of water distribution systems (pipes, pumps, tanks).
• Knowledge of basic hydraulic concepts (flow, pressure, head loss) is recommended.
• Basic computer skills (installing software, handling files).
• Familiarity with GIS or CAD tools (optional, but helpful).
• Interest in water infrastructure design and management.
• No prior experience with WaterGEMS required.
